Saturday Aug 29, 4pm-Talent Show & Bake Sale Fundraiser
Our hand bells are in need of tuning and general maintenance. We would like to raise money towards this maintenance with a Talent Show & Bake Sale on Saturday, August 29th @ 4 pm in the Sanctuary. Our kids’ bell choir, the Ringers for Peace, will be performing in the Talent Show! We invite any and all others who would like to share a song, music, act, dance, reading, etc. to join us! No talent is needed and humor is appreciated! We also invite you to come and enjoy the talent show, no performance needed! (There’s a Performer sign-up at the church.)
We are requesting donations at “the door”. You can give via cash, check (write hand bells in the memo line) or give online.
In addition, we will be hosting a Bake Sale after the Talent Show. Our kids will provide some treats to sell, but we would like others to help them out! (Baked item sign-up is at the church.)
Proceeds from both the Talent Show & Bake Sale will go towards the hand bells’ maintenance.

Now thru Sept–Grocery Bag Purchase Supports Common Earth Community Garden
Throughout August & September, when you purchase a reusable Fight Hunger bag for $2.50 at the King Soopers located at 64th & Ward (this location only), $1 will be donated to the Common Earth Community Garden (community garden at the church). Designed in alignment with King Soopers’ Zero Hunger | Zero Waste initiative, aimed at helping to end hunger and eliminate waste in local communities, the Fight Hunger bag makes it easy for shoppers to impact local hunger relief efforts. Look for the Fight Hunger bags (red with Support Your LOCAL Community on it) on display racks in the store!

now-end of August–Growing our Endowment, A Gift for the Future
We are on our way with gifts and matching total of just over $6500! You can be part of planting seeds for the future of First United Church of Arvada through the growth of the Endowment Fund! An anonymous $10,000 match has been committed to encourage donations to the Endowment Fund by the end of August! Each contribution will be matched dollar for dollar up to the $10,000 of the challenge fund. To participate, please indicate “Challenge Fund” with your gift. Watch the tree graphic at church grow with color in the coming weeks as gifts are made—a visible reminder that together, we are nurturing something that will continue to give life for generations.

Labyrinth-Open for Walking
In the fall of 2024, our congregation completed construction for a labyrinth, open to the community for meditative walks.

New Recycling Programs at First United
We are starting three hard-to-recycle stream collections here at church (through a company called Ridwell):
• Bread tags – you know those little plastic clips that hold your bread bag together
• Plastic RX bottles – many curbside recycling programs do not take these, especially not the lids. So, you can bring yours here! We ask that you attach the lids and remove the labels.
• Batteries – alkaline and lithium. PLEASE no batteries that are corroding.
You can bring your items at any time and place them in the recycling receptacles that are in the Fireside Room. We will collect them on a regular basis and put them in our curbside pickups. Contact the Church Office with any questions.
