Sundays, 8:30am–Adult Ed Morning Discussions
EVERYONE is invited to join in these conversations. We want to talk together about your interests and concerns as we learn and grow together in our faith and our understandings. Come and help us choose a topic that just might help you grow your faith as you think and interact with fellow seekers.
Nov 10 @ 8:30 AM – Finishing “The Gospel of Truth” and beginning to look at “The Gospel of Judas”
now-Sunday Nov 10–“Imagine Together” and Celebration Sunday
We’re in the midst of our annual Stewardship Campaign. Each Sunday morning a member of the congregation has been sharing a personal story during the worship service. Our Stewardship theme this year calls for you imagine what our church would be like if we continue to enfold children, young people, adults – including seniors- in all of the ministries we see around us as we enter the building, meditate in the labyrinth, play in the grass, learn in classes, worship in our lovingly cared-for sanctuary, grow food in the garden. We can imagine it and we can do it! The campaign concludes with our Celebration Sunday on November 10, where we bring our pledge cards forward during worship and have a special lunch of “Stewardship Stew”, which includes a variety of stews. Please stay and eat!
now thru Sunday Nov 22–Santa House unwrapped toy collection
First United Church of Arvada generously supported Santa House last year. Santa House is a 17 year old tradition in Arvada, started as a cooperative effort between Jefferson County School Administrators and the Kiwanis Club. Our own Bill and Jamie Johnson were instrumental in establishing Santa House. The program helps families with children in Arvada Jeffco Schools select Christmas presents for their children. The program has served 33,550 children throughout its history. The Kiwanis Foundation gives out vouchers to families in nine Title 1 schools in Arvada. Families are then able to shop for their children. New, unwrapped toys for children up to 12, stuffed animals, Legos, art supplies, board games and books are some of the most needed items this year. Toys will be collected at First United until Friday, November 22. Monetary gifts can be given directly thru the Kiwanis organization here.
Sunday Dec 1–Advent Begins (Advent Devotional available Nov 17)
The Advent Devotional Starry Nights: An Advent Devotional Full of Light and Wonder, from the SALT Project will be available at the church starting November 17. (Advent begins Sunday, December 1.) “Advent is a season of stars: twinkling over shepherds, leading the Magi to Bethlehem, and filling our own dark Advent nights with glimmers of brilliance. And it’s also a season of wonder, a time for all of God’s children to marvel at what God has done – and will yet do – for the love of this broken, beautiful world. This devotional is all about embracing light and wonder.” We’re providing 1 per household for free. Contact the Church Office for any questions.
