Calendar
We’re planning to create our own CROP walk route near our church building on Sept 26 to make participation easier!
This month we will be fighting hunger both on a local and on a national/international level. We are asking for donations to our Blessing Box (located at the south end of the front sidewalk) as well as participating in the CROP Walk (Church World Service). In years past we have joined others from around the area and walked together. This year, on September 26, we will be doing our own FUCA CROP Walk from our property following our Sunday morning service. It will be a short one mile walk (half mile out and back). Wear your walking shoes that Sunday! Donations for the Blessing Box (list of items needed is here) can be brought that Sunday or throughout the month of September. Items can be dropped off in the church office during regular office hours or on Sunday mornings. Donations for the CROP Walk can be made out to FUCA with CROP Walk in the memo line or made online at our website: https://www.
First United Church of Arvada is now open for in-person Worship in addition to offering our services over Zoom. For in-person services, masks are strongly recommended for vaccinated people, and required for unvaccinated individuals. Social distancing remains in place. The nursery is open. Masks are required in the nursery for ages 2 and up.
Elementary age kids will be invited to leave the worship service partway through to attend Worship & Wonder. Masks are required. And kids are always welcome in the sanctuary with you or, if you prefer, you can bring your child(ren) to the foyer and still participate in the service, but with some extra wiggle room.

Book Club’s next read is Suzanne and Gertrude a rare story about Suzanne, a human, and Gertrude, a donkey, by Jeb Loy Nichols, an American singer and songwriter. “I write because there are things I can’t sing. I write because I watch,” says Jeb Loy Nichols, an internationally acclaimed musician and artist, about his literary art. In this unforgettable novel, Suzanne has arranged her life to suit her solitariness, living quietly on her untended hill farm. Her days are a word-shy negotiation, caught between indifference and uncertainty. Into this world comes Gertrude, a wandering donkey. Together they form an unlikely alliance; each protecting the solitude of the other. Book Club is planning to meet Monday, November 1 at 3pm at one of our church members’ home. Please contact the church office for more information.
