Mission & Service Committee and Book Club are hosting a movie night/discussion of the film “A Man Called Ove” based on the book by Fredrik Backman. The showing will be on Sunday November 27 at 6pm in the sanctuary with some discussion time afterwards. (In person only) Mission & Service is “charging admission” of heavy winter socks or warm gloves that will be given to The Rising Church’s homeless ministry in Olde Town Arvada.
Here’s a brief description of the film: “A curmudgeon hides a terrible personal loss beneath a cranky and short-tempered exterior while clashing with new neighbors, a boisterous family whose chattiness and habits lead to unexpected friendship.” (The movie is 2 hours long and in Swedish with subtitles.)
Let’s Deck the Hall Sanctuary on Dec. 3! We’ll be putting up the tree and doing other decorating in the sanctuary on Saturday Dec. 3 at 1pm. Come on out and help with the festivities!
First United Church of Arvada is open for in-person Worship in addition to offering our services over Zoom. For in-person services, masks are optional. If you feel more comfortable wearing a mask or are not feeling well, we encourage you to continue to wear a mask on Sunday mornings or join us via Zoom. Request Zoom link here.
The nursery is open. Elementary age kids will be invited to leave the worship service partway through to attend Worship & Wonder. Kids are always welcome in the sanctuary with you or, if you prefer, you can bring your child(ren) to the foyer and still participate in the service, but with some extra wiggle room.
Today:
- Advent Week 2: Lighting the Candle of Peace
- Decorating the Tree
Let’s flock together after worship on December 4 to cut out and decorate some of the bird ornaments that come with the devotional! We can add some to our tree in the sanctuary or you can brighten someone’s day by giving them away.

Ten years ago this December 14, the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting took place in Newtown, CT. We’ll take time to ring the bell in our Columbarium at 9:30am on December 14–the time the event took place–along with a short time of prayer. We’ll be grieving this loss, as well as the other gun violence losses that came before and since–particularly in schools. We’ll als
