Calendar

For the month of January we will look at Richard Rohr’s book Falling Upward: A Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life in which he explores the different work (spiritually, emotionally) we are called to do for a meaningful life in early adulthood and later adulthood. As Rohr puts it: “The first task (first half of life) is to build a strong container or identity; the second is to find the contents that the container was meant to hold.” Come dig into Rohr’s ideas with us! Meetings are at 8:30am Sundays in the Fireside Room, Jan 6, 13, 20 & 27. (You’re welcome to come even if you don’t have the book.)

Children & youth are dismissed about 20 minutes in to the service for Worship & Wonder (elementary age) and Youth Sunday school (middle & high school). Nursery is provided for younger children. Worship concludes about 11:00AM, with coffee and fellowship afterward.

• Annual Congregational Meeting follows Worship (lunch snacks provided)

The Annual Congregational Meeting of the First United Church of Arvada will be held Sunday, January 27, 2019, in the sanctuary immediately following worship. The purpose of the meeting is to adopt the 2019 Budget, and to elect the officers of the church and Board members, as well as any other matters that shall properly come before the congregation. The 2018 Annual Report will be presented at the meeting. It will be sent to all those with e-mail a week before the meeting.

Children (elementary age) are dismissed about 20 minutes into the service for Worship & Wonder. Youth (middle & high school) stay in the service. Nursery is provided for younger children. Worship concludes about 11:00AM, with coffee and fellowship afterward.

• “Noisy” Collection of change (and/or dollars & checks made out to FUCA with “Noisy Collection” in the memo line) to donate to a local food bank

In advance of New Member Sunday on Feb 17, there’s a New Member Class for anyone who wants to attend, before worship, beginning at 8:45am Feb 10.

Who are the prophets? What’s their significance to today? Robbie Martin will give a short overview of some of the prophets, and open the class for discussion this Sunday, Feb 17 at 8:30am. (All are welcome.)

All who want to help assemble Blessing Bags with Mission & Service please stay! These are bags you can carry in your car to hand out to people asking for help along your way. Items that are being collected ahead of time include snacks, toiletries, socks and gloves. (Here’s the list.)
