Chuck Clark is leading a study on Matthew Fox’s book, “Creativity: Where the Divine and Human Meet”. The class, beginning on Feb 4, will run for approximately six Sundays from 8:30 to 9:30 am. Books are available from Chuck Clark for $5. Childcare is available. “Fox believes the human creativity is what most differentiates us from other species – yet we rarely focus on it in our educational or religious institutions. Creativity is the key to our genius and beauty as a species, also to our capacity for evil. Because creativity is the key to both our genius and beauty as a species but also to our capacity for evil, we need to teach creativity and to teach ways of steering this God-like power in directions that promote love of life (biophilia) and not love of death (necrophilia). Many people undergo their most profound mystical experiences during acts of creativity but this is often left unacknowledged. What are the true sources of our creativity? What in life is not enhanced by creativity? How do we go about teaching and eliciting and nurturing creativity in ourselves and our children? How does the Holy Spirit work through us in our creative acts and processes? What is the relationship of wildness and creativity?” These are some of the topics treated in this book.
First United Church of Arvada is open for in-person Worship in addition to offering our services over Zoom. Request Zoom link here.
About 20 minutes into the service, kids K-3rd grade are usually invited to Worship & Wonder (every Sunday) and 4th-6th to Engage & Explore (3 out of 4 Sundays a month). Know that children are always welcome in the sanctuary with you or, if you prefer, you can bring your child(ren) to the foyer and still participate in the service, but with some extra wiggle room.
The nursery is open.

- 5th Sunday of Lent
For the next book club book, we’re reading The Lost Bookshop by Evie Woods. There is no library kit for this one, so you’ll need to find the book on your own. We’ll meet on Friday March 22 at 1pm at a church member’s home to discuss it! If you have questions about book club, contact the church office.
We will have an outdoor workday on Saturday, March 23 from 9 am to noon. We will be tidying up the front of the church as well other possible projects that Building and Property may have for us to help with. If you are able to come and help out, it would be appreciated! Bring your work gloves! Contact the Church Office with any questions.

- Palm Sunday & 6th Sunday of Lent
- Procession of Palms and Holy Week Symbols
- Children decorate their bikes/scooters during “Sunday school time”, then ride/walk in a parade outdoors
We will have our traditional Palm Sunday bike and scooter parade for the children after church on March 24. On Palm Sunday, bring your wheels already decorated, or decorate with us; we will provide streamers and glitz! We will have a short ride along the sidewalk around the parking lot. Adult walkers/bikers encouraged to join! Helmets strongly encouraged. Our children will also participate in bringing the palms into worship during the beginning of the service that Sunday. Contact the Church Office with any questions.
On Maundy Thursday, March 28, we will gather for a simple meal of foods Jesus and his disciples may have eaten (pita bread, olives, nuts, hummus, water, a simple salad…). We’ll be together in fellowship, singing, candlelight and Holy Communion as we remember the night Jesus broke bread with his friends before his journey to the cross. There’s a sign-up available (contact the church office), including a paper copy on the welcome desk at the main entrance. Older children who are able to partake in this contemplative service are welcome and we will provide childcare if needed.
